About

I grew up in Pacolet , South Carolina, where my parents worked in the textile mills. After high school I received an associates degree from Ricks College in Idaho and a bachelors, with an emphasis in pre-law, and a masters degree in English literature from Idaho State University . Later I receive a Masters of Fine Arts Degree in writing from The University of Southern California.

I married Mary Porter. Together we have six daughters. We were married for 35 years. Acutely conscious of personal faults, I find a comforting truism that most of us lean on: “Nobody’s perfect.” But there are those of whom it can be said that their duty to God and dedication to family were so absolute , unselfish, and uncompromising that their faults diminish like shadows before the rising sun. Such can be said of Mary. After her death by cancer, I married Linda Fluckiger in 2001. Linda has seven children, five sons and two daughters whom she raised alone. Together we have 13 children, 43 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. King David said, ‘Blessed is he who has a quiver full.’ Linda and I live together in joy. She is like a blossoming rose whose stem never curls, whose pedals never wilt, and whose flowing fragrance never ceases. If heaven is a perfection of the love I feel at home, then it will be a heaven worth fighting for.

For 38 years I taught courses in literature, logic, & writing at Ricks College and Brigham Young University Idaho. Upon retirement, Linda and I served a 2-year mission in Bangalore, India.

We spend half the year in Southeast Idaho and the other half in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. I spend my time writing and Linda graciously spends her time editing. The trilogy on In Defense of Christianity is the first of nine books. They are subtitled respectively: Freedom, Liberty, and Agency. She is also recording the books on tape. The audio tapes will be released in the near future.
